Cheap, Easy and Healthy Tuna Patties

I threw this recipe together last night and it turned out really good so I thought I would share it. It was getting down to the last couple of days before payday where you are just trying to use what you have and make something cheap, but still good. I recently quit my second job to focus more on myself; I was wearing myself thin. So, without the money from the second job things have been more tight and I am learning to make cheaper meals. That is why you will see me create things that are cheap and easy and perfect for working individuals who don't have time or money to create a huge meal with all of their groceries form Whole Foods. Not that I wouldn't totally love to do that, I just don't have the time or money to do that all the time. So, I was going through my stuff in the pantry and fridge trying to think of what I should make and I saw two packs of tuna in my pantry so I thought what the heck, lets give this a try. So I give to you, my easy and cheap but also still healthy tuna patties. Enjoy!


  • 2 cans or packages of tuna
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp avocado mayo (optional)
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • salt and pepper
  • zest and juice form 1/2 of a lemon
  • chopped green onions (about 1/4 cup)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
  • hot sauce (optional)
  • mozzarella cheese (optional) about 2-3 tbsp 


  1. Mix together tuna, Dijon mustard, mayo, bread crumbs, salt and pepper, lemon zest and juice and green onions. 
  2. Form mixture into about 4 balls and pat into patties.
  3. Heat skillet to medium heat and add olive oil. 
  4. Fry the tuna patties in the oil until crispy (about 5 minutes) while continuously flipping to get pattie crispy all over. top the pattie with some mozzarella cheese and let it melt. 
  5. Top the pattie with hot sauce if desired and eat in a lettuce wrap or just by itself!

SOOO easy, cheap, healthy and delicious!
