How to bake delicious chicken for beginners




So you don't really have an idea on how to bake chicken? You are not alone! I actually get asked a lot on how to cook chicken. Times have changed and some things are not passed down to us, especially how to cook these days. This is a simple recipe on how to bake and season chicken. Its just a simple basic recipe for chicken that can be paired with just about anything, with brown rice, steamed veggies, a salad, etc. As you get more comfortable with cooking you will find out spices that you love and will get more comfortable with cooking, trust me! You have to start somewhere, so here is just a simple description on how to bake chicken. Feel free to comment with any questions you have!



Start with what kind of chicken you have. If you have chicken breasts they will cook a little longer than tenders or other pieces of the chicken. If they are frozen you can thaw them out in hot water or leave out in the sink during the day to thaw while you are at work or running errands.

Now go ahead and preheat the oven, I usually cook my chicken on high heat, I preheat the oven to 415 degrees. After you have preheated the oven choose something that can be put in the oven, I like to use a 9x13 glass baking dish to keep the moisture in the chicken. If you do not have one of these you can use a cookie sheet but I would recommend putting down aluminum foil and spraying the foil with Pam Spray or lightly drizzling olive oil on the chicken.

Now to season the chicken. This is where it comes to your taste, but if you are just beginning I would start simple and then work your way into different spices. Lightly drizzle olive oil all over your chicken, you don't want it to be too dry or have too much oil. I would say if you have four chicken breasts use about 2-3 tbsp olive oil and make sure the chicken has oil all over it. Now season the chicken with salt and pepper lightly, for 4 chicken breasts use about 1 tbsp of salt and 1 tbsp pepper. Put the seasoning in your palm and sprinkle with your fingers all over the chicken on both sides. Now use garlic powder and season all over like you did with the salt (about 1 tbsp). Now you can either use a pre-made garlic and herb seasoning like the ones from Ms. Dash (about 2 tbsp) or you can use 1 tbsp oregano and 1 tbsp parsley and season all over again just like you did the salt and pepper. Now bake your chicken for about 35 minutes. This is where it gets tricky because every chicken breast or piece of chicken is a different level of thickness, so I like to slice the thickest piece of chicken I have and make sure that there is no pink in the middle. If there is still pink continue to cook for another 5-10 minutes. You can always taste the chicken once it is done and decide if you like it or not or if it needs more seasoning. If you want more seasoning add maybe another tbsp of olive oil and season more with whatever seasoning you desire!
